Google is rolling out AI Mode, a new feature that delivers conversational, AI-generated answers instead of the traditional list of search links. This could fundamentally change how people use search and how businesses get discovered.

 

– Fewer blue links
– More AI summaries
– Potential drop in organic and paid traffic

 

Publishers and advertisers are already feeling the effects – The Daily Mail reports a 50% drop in Google referral traffic since AI Overviews launched.

 

But what does this mean for marketers?

 

– PPC may become less visible
– SEO will be harder to rely on alone
– Diversifying across other platforms (social, TV, native, etc.) will be critical
